Pirates Finish Regular Season Strong
Plainview Shuts Out West Holt 36-0
by Joe Anderson
October 27, 2008
The Pirate football team finished the regular season strong on Thursday night with a 36-0 win. Defense was the big story. The Pirate defense did not allow a first down until the last drive of the fourth quarter. The Huskies ended up with 66 total yards of offense, while running only 31 plays. On offense the Pirates got their ground game rolling. They ended up with 304 yards rushing. Andrew Holton led the team with 154 yards and 2 TD's. Teran Boyer added 77 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Tyler Wattier was perfect through the air, connecting on all 4 passes for 85 yards and a TD. That touchdown was a 65 yard completion to Nathan Wragge. I was very pleased with the way we came out and played. We did not let the weather or field conditions bother us. We were able to dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and our backs did a nice job of executing. With this win we were able to achieve one of our goals, which was a district title. We hope to use this as momentum into the post season. The Pirates will host 5-3 Chase County at 7:00 on Thursday night in the first round of the playoffs.

Pirates Improve to 5-2
Take Down the Eagles of LHNE 32-3
by Joe Anderson
October 19, 2008
The Plainview football team improved its record to 5-2, with a 32-3 win over the Eagles of Lutheran High. The Eagles struck first with a field goal, but it was all Pirates from that point on. Pirates used big plays to jump out to a big lead. The first four scores were passing plays of 40 yards or more. Tyler Wattier hooked up with Derek White on 54 yard bomb, Nathan Wragge on a 60 yard strike, and Caden Aleaxnder on a 59 yard pass. Trey Boyer also connected with Caden Alexander for a 41 yard touchdown. ON the ground the Pirates were led by Andrew Holton with 61 yards.Teran Boyer added 30 yards, and Trey Boyer added 34 yards. After giving up the first scoring drive, the Pirate defense played solid the rest of the night. LHNE never threatened the end zone again and turned the ball over 4 times. Two of those turnovers were interceptions by Teran Boyer. I was pleased with the way our kids made some adjustments on the field. After that first drive we started taking away most of their bread and butter plays. I thought our DB's played very well and our DL was able to pressure their QB all not long. The Pirates travel to Atkinson on Thursday night to take on the Huskies at 7:00.

Pirates Come Up Just Short
#1 ranked Stanton Edges Plainview 20-16
by Joe Anderson
October 13, 2008
It was supposed to be on of the top games in the state last Friday, and it lived up to all the hype. In a back and forth contest, Stanton scored last to come out on top with a 20-16 win.The Pirates were led by a balanced ground attack with 4 backs reaching over 40 yards. Andrew Holton had 78, Tyler Holton 54, Tyler Wattier 53, and Teran Boyer 41. Wattier was 3-5 through the air for 42 yards. I thought our line played well up front. We were able to move the ball all night long. We just have to learn how to finish drives. We got down to their 5 yard line 3 times and only got 3 points out of those trips. However, I was very pleased with the kids effort. When they got behind they always kept battling back. What this game proved to me was that when we play well we can play with anybody in the state. We just have to keep getting better each week, so we can be playing our best football in late October and November. IT is a short week for the Pirates as a much improved LHNE team comes to town on Thursday for a 7:00 kickoff.
